Objectified Entree – A Feast of Despair

What if exploitation were served à la carte?

“Objectified Entree: A Feast of Despair” is a powerful editorial illustration inspired by the hidden realities of Mumbai’s infamous red-light district, Kamathipura. While working on this piece, I aimed to shed light on the heartbreaking lives of the women trapped in prostitution, a world largely unknown outside of India but one that is tragically real for those who live it.

Step into a haunting visual metaphor where women are served up like “entrees.” Using satire as a scalpel rather than a shield, the illustration exposes the grim reality of prostitution, where society feasts on their vulnerabilities, reducing their lives to mere consumables. The red tablecloth, symbolizing the district, sets the stage for this tragic banquet of objectification.
This illustration challenges the dehumanization they endure, revealing the hollow numbness behind the facade, and urging us to confront the way we perceive and exploit the most vulnerable.
